About Us

History

My name is Arthur, I live in Ipswich with my son Isaac, who is currently in his 20's. Isaac was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 3, and later in primary school, also recieved an ADHD diagnosis.

Through the years, it's been hard to find ways to get Isaac to get out of the house or show interest in many things, he mainly enjoyed staying at home and playing video games.

Early 2020, Isaac's occupational therapist and psychologist suggested finding somewhere Isaac could go out and play games with other people who share his interests. After months of looking, we didn't find anywhere to go, so we went back to the OT and psychologist and explained we weren't able to find anything.

They suggested we opened our own place, suited specifically for people on the autism spectrum, to fill that need.

After lots of hard work, finding the perfect location, and endless negotiations with Isaac, we opened The Gaming Den.

Over the last 4 years we have worked hard to make it a place where Isaac and other people on the Autism spectrum feel safe and comfortable, with everything that happens in the building either suggested or approved by him. We wanted to make sure nobody would be easily over stimulated, so there's no loud music, no flashing lights, and not too many people here at one time as our bookings cap at 11 gamers.

What We Offer

For over 4 years we have been servicing the Ipswich and Brisbane area, with NDIS participants being our target audience.

We offer the first session for free to see if we are a good fit with no pressure to return afterwards if it doesn’t work out.

We are equipped with computers containing over 350 games, 2 VR headsets with over 90 games

and 2 dedicated racing simulators, along with a wide selection of board games. We mainly focus on single-player and in-house multiplayer games, to avoid the sometimes toxic online communities. Our games include Minecraft, Skyrim, Age of Empires, Mass Effect, the Witcher series, Baldur’s Gate 3, the Borderlands series and more. You can see our full list of games here.

Our doors are open for all ages, with under 16 years needing a support worker or guardian to stay with them while they game, and over 16 years welcome to come independently or with their support worker. We do recommend anyone of any age bringing along someone comfortable initially to help with the new space and new faces.

We encourage parents to come along while their child is gaming to be able to meet other families with similar experiences.

We have a fridge and microwave for storing and heating meals, free bottled water, a table to eat at, a pod coffee machine with a selection of free coffee to choose from, a designated quiet area and plenty of free on-site parking.
